sometimes a track is so hot it just has to come back around again. about ten years ago brett johnson and dave barker (stucco homes) wrote some unbelievably catching house tunes, one of them being temptation and lies. so it just seemed right to give this track yet another life. deadbeat and mike shannon dive deep into a stripped down techno groover, removing the constant use of the vocals and creating a rolling techno dub version. some seriously deep bass in the production that works the subs in all the right places. ernesto ferreyra and guillaume coutu dumont aka chic miniature give you a playful melodic version on the flip. full use of the original chord progressions, combined with the guys signature marimba/latin percussion leaving you with a lush, warm summer hit. then brett dives into the track again giving you the oohs and ahhs mix. a ten minutes work out with bjs patented groove focused on the vocal harmonies in the original. the result is a warped, spaced out, long player that is sure to twist a few heads. mental just about sums it up. of course we had to include the original masterpiece for those who didnt find it the first time round. a favorite of everyone involved on the remix project i think youll agree that the temptation and lies cynosure mixes do the original some justice.

the latest gigolo release is one for the summer! aptly titled hot it comes courtesy of ivano coppola and christian prommer, the former being one of italia s most respected dj s and the latter being, amongst other things, one of the main collaborators for hells critically acclaimed album teufelswerk. taking a sample from willie ninjas classic record hot and building a track around the chords and the vocal leads us to our starting point ivano coppola plastic mix!
ivano coppola has been the resident dj at milan s plastic club since 1992, so it is fair to say that he knows what works on a dance floor, or, to use a popular phrase, what is hot and what is not. it is with this historical knowledge that we find the genesis of our track. i found it necessary to go back in the past, to start producing once again in a 90 style - using samples. the next step was to come back into the future and reach out to christian prommer, highly respected by many including ivan i consider (christian prommer) one of the best producers of the moment! he loved the idea, the remix was huge, and so we decided to co-produce the record. simple!!!
but, for christian this was more then a remix, hence the co-production credit! i liked the idea of translating an early 90 s house-music-sample in to a sample-style-percussive-techno-tune. lots of live played drums and percussion in this one, of course. i only later learned that the sample we used is from one of my house music heroes, maws louie vega. naturally the record found its way into the hands of gigolo in the best way possible, and in the tradition of such a great record label – i played it at the gigolo night in munich and hell came to me dancing and took the tune into his heart.

this is the first in a series of three various artist 12 inch releases, that features four of the dublin labels most trusted henchmen. puresthatreds >robbery< is his debut track on mantrap and what an awesome one it is: dark imposing bass and beats meet the sound of smashing glass, rave led keys and all round mayhem, with haunting strings that send this one into deepest hell. meeting him there is magnetize, who in one take supplied this evil vox led synth grinder in >distant observer< , with deft 808s and distorted crackling fx creating both a scary but grooving feel. rory st john pushes wobbly techno eccentricity on >dysentry<, with fluid editing and supreme use of effects proving again why he is one of the most exciting new talents around. sunil sharpes >print more money and shut up!< is a slippery mover, where a succession of unruly lead sounds accompany odd vocals and rasping hats - with a straightforward approach that will penetrate all in its way. so, four top class techno cuts here, all with their own unique character and all for peak time play.

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l. (which stands for phase locked loop, a process explored here) continues this theme in a less obvious way. modular synths and drum tracks start things off while midway a modulating melodic phrase is introduced playing back a bit differently every time. four songs in all showcasing tejadaÆs simple and complex approach to dance music.

with electric rescue, the french dj d jedi, who is known all over paris, becomes a part of the cocoon family. he is connected with the development of techno in france already since the beginning of the nineties. despite being busy as a producer for commercials and soundtracks, he always finds some time to release exciting electronic music on imprints such as f comm, communique, elp media and paul nazcas label scandium, where he has released his debut album >el.ue< three years ago. with the two tracks on >the darkest star<, electric rescue succeeds in the daring feat of transforming the energy of rave tracks from the early nineties into the present time without producing an anachronistic impression. besides a tectonically shaking bass drum, the title track relies on the power of sound, a superlative of raw club energy with a twist of irony, which can set a surprising climax with a steadily rising noise level, even after almost ten minutes. >the devils dance< is grafting a comparably brute state-of-emergency techno in a somehow restrained way, rhythm-wise, but is no less effective with its distinctive acid sound effects. and who said that modern techno cant use the tradition of belgian rave-signal-floor-burners?

hailing from montpellier, rodriguez jr. makes his return to leena with “kids of hula,” bringing the coastal sounds of his hometown along with him. after the success of “rubbo swingo”, his first release on leena, rodriguez jr.—who also comprises half of f communications’ the youngsters—went on to release records for boxer recordings and mothership. on leena’s 11th release, he has returned for a second round, once again displaying his softer side as a housey, psychedelic producer. “kids of hula“ begins on a strongly melodic note with airy, exotic chords leading the way and occasional accents of tropical percussion lining the backdrop. old-school throwbacks also have their place here, as the track climaxes with the use of psychedelic vintage sounds that recall the work of space disco giant lindstrom until they ultimately fuse together with the track’s initial harmonies to create a complex and layered final product. the b-side “pandora” begins with a more stuttered beat and a warbled, static-laced environment. the track reaches its high point with psychedelic sounds comparable to those heard on the a-side that possess a more hypnotic, melodic, and spacey twist. digital exclusive “offshore” fills its landscape with fragments of vocals and high pitched bleeps, blurps, squeals that alternate in time with one another until vintage synthesizers enter the picture. as the track progresses, the old-school synthesizer sounds and vocal snippets unite and begin to work together in unison, by the time the track reaches its peak, the vintage synths have taken on a completely new sound and direction, guiding the pulse of the track until its ending.

20 years time, when vinyl diggers are hunting the most obscure house and techno treasures from the 90s and noughties, theyll probably turn to expert patrick specke for assistance. this dj and producer from düsseldorf is dedicated to the machines that he uses to craft his metallic, shimmying tunes - but hes equally committed to collecting the best pieces of vinyl that walk the earth. you can hear it in his tracks for this desolat release: a solid understanding of the space between the beats and the subtly textured samples that help make up a fine dance-floor groove. tracks like get me out and bitchual linestepper use tight drum loops to build the kind of stealth attack that lends itself to dancefloor damage. on naggin me the building blocks that make up the classiest 4/4 recordings are reshuffled and stretched out - from here to mars and back

big love go from strength to strength next up for them is up n coming french producer romain curtis teams up with seamus haji and rising swedish star awa on vocals for this sublime track that should do the biznizz this summer. romains club mix has an infectious feel and teases the chorus vocal to crowd-pleasing results. seamus hajis vocal mix rushes straight to the top of the anthemometer whilst his dub goes deeper and tuffer with a slight tribal edge. all round dirty/techy/funker filthy rich really goes for the peak time slot making great use of the vocal for light relief

big with richie hawtin, tiefschwarz, loco dice, dubfire, jeff k ... new sub-division lessizmore limited is the occasion for us to produce new artists and to release their work in a beautiful colored 10 inch, 500 copy limited pressing for audiophiles. the first release is focused on two new hopes of 2009: jin choi and dop. jin choi has released many impressive eps on ware, archipel and roman photo. his tracks are subtle, full of details, he looks for instruments and singings you would never expect in a usual dance tune. carnivores is a long and melancholic trip which cannot let you unmoved. french trio dop does a complete rework of the track, adding their own voices, some punchy percussions and a pinch of sex appeal. they keep the original vocals and instruments but use it in such a different way that makes it look funnier.

clone v2.0! clone back in its new form.. a series of specialized series dedicated to different functionalities, emotions and styles of electronic music. the clone loft series will be releasing more traditional house and ny influenced disco for the smaller and more intimate club settings. first of reggie dokes with probably his best release so far! a-side is a dirty but massive house track that goes down very well in any house set! at first notice this might be the main track... which most likely it is for more peak-time use... but actually our favorite is the fierce i wear the mask track on the flipside. this track has a nice jumpy beat, very light... but such a balanced rhythm that it will grab one for sure. on top it has layers of strings and a bouncy bassline and very staccato keys... and everything is so well balanced, so sensitive that it really gives us goosebumps all over! it reminds even to some derrick may tracks where he managed to make his songs emotional and fragile with the same kind of timbre and hidden energy (but then less 909 orientated and such...) it has that force, that gentle force of magic that frees that inner energy, that inner power that makes you wanna dance. what a stunning track and what a strong release by mr dokes. essential!

the new hugg n pepp, another top secret bomb that i managed to steal while in stockholm. the biggest record ever to use the word >penguini<!

he making of this record inadvertently began in cuba in january 2008. powershovelaudio was recording in la havana some of the best contemporary cuban singers and musicians. the resulting recordings were of an inspiring beauty. the situation was that powershovelaudio had this outstanding collection of voices, woods and brass, all infused by the tropical warmth. it was first-class material that should be put in the best hands possible, then maayan came to mind. ônight longö is a synthetic work. maayan has inexplicably, quickly and with incredible precision captured the essence and the expressivity of the cuban musicians and taken it to a hitherto unknown place. maayan is of course well-known for her diligent talent in inserting voices of quality in her mixes, but in this occasion the result is more than surprising. instead of concentrating in her signature minimal beats, maayan has experimented with different cadences, depths and moods, leaving behind her swirl a disconcerting record of inspired beauty. this art in this record is graced with photography by one of the best and most influential photographers in the world: moriyama daido. maayan asked moriyama san for permission to use the cover image, a request which moriyama san, after listening to the record, gladly accepted

album sampler of the fred ventura classic cuts album release. two special tracks that have never been released before. a side is a sublime edit version by fabric resident dj craig richard of the i f track (ft fred ventura) i cut my heart out. craig made the track more suitable for modern club use, and he has been playing this edit version since months. he received so many reactions on the track of people who went total nuts (and some even cried when he played the intense and emotional song!). we thought this is the right moment to make it available for everyone. on the b side we have a slamming italo disco monster which fred produced together with ajello. super phat basslines (slightly reminding us of classic bobby orlando tracks) and typical italo disco synths. two completly different tracks both featuring the emotional vocals of fred ventura. timeless piece of dance music!
